Replacement Tank for 85 Tenere
 

Hello All,

I have two very dodgy Tenere Tanks and thought the quick fix of a plastic tank would be the way to go.... I quickyl gathered that finding a good 2nd hand Acerbis tank in Australia would be impossible!

Looking at aftermarket tanks, I only came up with Acerbis who don't do tanks for an '85 tenere these days. I then came acros Clarke who had two tanks suiteable for "84-89" XT600.

I ordered one and eventually got it across to Australia but..... it was way to small. The supplier confirmed the tank was the correct part number but it is a good 15cm short from meeting up with seat. Not to mention the mounting bolts are totally different!

Has anyone got any experience with Clarke tanks? Can anyone else recommend a replacement tank for this old beastie :confused1:

I reckon the tank they have sent you is for a 43F model.

maybe get a 43F seat to match it. but you would have to weld a bracket on your very pristine looking frame for the rear tank mount and probably have to cut off the existing mount

or have a new ally tank fabricated,

or how bad are the tanks you've got? show us some pics

I have just bought a cheap 43F tank as a temporary replacement whilst I repainted my 1985 55W. As your photo, the tank is much shorter with only 1 location hole although it does fit onto the 55W frame, so I won't be using it. I have spotted a few 55W tanks coming up for sale on ebay Germany so you may get lucky and there was one on ebay Austrlia listed by a breaker about a month ago.

Have you tried Petseal'ing your tank? What's up with it?

Sorry for the delay, I have two tanks to choose from, but both were from farm bikes and pretty rough....

The white tank is the best nick but it does have a loose baffle inside rattling around. The tank with the rust has the most dents as you can see, but the photos don't do the size of the dents justice!!

What do you guys think? Are these feasable repair jobs or should I hold out for a good second hand one....

the white tank looks like the big dent would pop out quite easy with a blast of compressed air a tyre lever through the filler might help pop out the dents too :cool4:

the white tank looks good, but I'm not sure how to fix the rattly baffle,

if you use compressed air to get dents out on these tanks just take it easy, the concave bits where your knees go can start to pop out and where the tank wraps round the frame, the two walls of the tank can start to get closer.

yeh if you go down the compressed air route be carefull use a bit of wood to keep its shape where required.

Thanks guys! Someone also suggested that the rattling baffle can be fixed by an anti rust treatment. One of the ones which coates the inside of the tank with a tough two-pack like resin which will hopefully stick the baffle in place!

I'll get a couple of quotes but that sounds like a go-er (I don't have an air gun and wouldn't feel confident doing the compressed air job myself).

you don't need a compressor a foot pump will do a bit of wood in the center where it sits over the frame and a couple of tie down straps around the outside and your good to go :thumbup1:
it worked that way for me 20 yrs ago on a suzuki ts tank :cool4:
