Road biast tyres for XT600E ?
 

hey all

Iv been doing a lot of miles on Metzeler Sahara 3's. They're ok in the dry but in the wet they get a bit sketchy.

On the way work today in the rain, the rear slipped twice although easily recoverable and on the way back from the HU meet, with all my luggage, they felt twitchy too.

They will be cool for South America but for the UK, i want to change to something more grippy on tarmac.

So, im thinking about some trailwings (are there two patterns ?) or can anyone care to recommend any others.

My '02 XT600E is fitted with Bridgstone Battlaxes which provide great grip and handling even in the wet, and were even good on some recent (dry) greenlaning!

Front: BT45F 90/90-21 (54H) inflated to 2.4 bar
Rear: BT45R 130/80-17 (65H) inflated to 2.5 bar

Cheers keith. Iv had BT45's before. Like you say, good tyres but very scary in anything but tarmac.

I wonder how they compare against trail wings on the road.

On the '02 XTE i had, i ran avon distanzias with good result, good grip and very good thread life

I use Pirelli MT90 scorpion A/T's on my TTR's. Mine can take the 140/80 18" on the back but I'm sure they do a 17" smaller profile. They last for ages, up to 10,000 miles from a rear, good on wet tarmac and not too bad off road.

Iv gone and ordered a Michelin Anakee 130/80/17.

I hear they are super sticky but only last 4000 miles. Im happy to swap tyres more often in exchange for road grip.

Ill throw a part worn Trail wing on the front that iv got knocking about.

Ill post up my review of the Anakee.

I just put a set on my xt600, great tire

Ted, I just picked up a set of Kenda K761 tires. I've had them about a month mostly onroad. They perform well on the roadway.Lots of road grip. Check this

Also, these tires are cheap...and I like cheap. I paid about $110 + taxes ( Can $)probably about lb50. I'm not even sure if you can get Kenda tires there but they are popular here.

Ted, if you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay for the Anakee?

(Isn't that the replacement for the T66?)

The tyre was £65.99 from MandP for the S speed rated tyre (Upto 112mph). The H rated version is £77.99 (Upto 130mph)

I bought the S rated as my XT only does 85 max :D

Im not sure if its the direct replacment for the T66 but it gets VERY good reviews for the road.

Got Pirelli MT90 Scorpions on mine too. Great for the road in both dry and wet conditions, and reasonable for off roading.

I have been looking at the whole world of tyres for last few months and I really dont know which tyres to go for! I do nearly all my riding on road but if i see a dirt track that looks interesting I dont want to die trying to attempt it. I like the look of he conti TKC80 but think they might be a bit hardcore off road for my rides. Having looked at the Anakee Ted has put on his bike I am very tempted. I must point out I ride in the dry unless caught out but I am planning some adventures upto Scotland later in the year and have to expect rain. Any advice will be great?

bridgestones newish battlewings are good in the wet, more road than off-road

Fitted an Anakee on the rear now..

Bloody brilliant in wet and dry on road.

Used them a little on hardpacked gravel and they were ok.

Hello, people! My '03 got Metzeler Tourance tyres and I think they're great, good grip on wet and dry roads. Ijust got a new rear Tourance, the old one lasted about 20000km. It's not a real offroad-tyre, but it can be done, as long it's not too muddy. XT-greetings, Hans van Langen.
