RTW Preperation
I am preparing a 2003 XT600E for RTW. I plan to fit the following parts, Skid plate, 23 Ltr tank, Air filter, Exhaust system, Custom Seat, Luggage, Suspension, Screen and Renthal bars.
I need some opinions on the following please. 1. I am replacing the Rims, would you fit an 18" Rear ? 2. Oil Cooler or is Oil Temp Gauge sufficient ? 3. Mikuni Flat slide Carb, any benefits ? 4. May fit Cartridge Emulators or AK20 Cartridge to Forks, anyone else done this ? |
Hi Darren,
I'm a newbie but heres my 2 pence worth I considered fitting an 18" wheel purely for the ease of finding replacement tyres in Africa, but i decided against it in the end on the basis of cost. I've learnt that whilst 17" tyres are rarer than 18", they can be obtained with some patience..:thumbup1: I'm in no rush so will take the risk. I'm not planning to fit an oil cooler or the other 2 bits. btw: What luggage rack and screen have you got have you got? Paul |

Always remember the KISS principle. Keep it Super Simple! Every GADGET you add is something not standard that may or may not be better. Be careful and make wise decisions, not just because it's cool or the racers all use it. We need strength, comfort, luggage capacity and reliability, not the cool factor. |
Ready To Go
Thanks for the response guys.
Paul, I am fitting Metal Mule luggage, expensive but after seeing it at the bike show I liked the quality, security and ease of removal. Screen is from Sedcem, in the UK you can order from www.baglux.co.uk. It is the most descrete looking one I could find. Grant, As you state its very easy to get hooked on all the accessories you do not need. When I first started planning I was tempted to add every accessory I could find. I did not even consider the Xt600 until recently, I was swayed by BMWs and KTMs marketing. I have done previous travels in Asia and Central Amercia with rented bikes and only recently made rationale decisions based on my experience and advice on this Hubb. Air cooled, simple and tough is now my main criteria. I like the KISS principle. Will leave the Forks alone except for new Springs and Oil with the addition of a Telefix fork brace. Will stick with a 17" rear. Still waiting for my quote from HPN but after being unable to pull a Bandit 600 out of a small ditch unaided in New Zealand I am sticking with the lighter bike. Thanks Again. |
