rubber mounts for front foot pegs
Hi apologies if this has been covered but couldn't find anything in a search specific to my model, xt 600e (4PT).
I am considering fixing some rubber foot rests to the bike, I would like to just fit something to the existing pegs but could replace if needed. I'm not likely to go off road so rubber pegs would be fine. The reason is that the pegs seem to wear the underneath of my boots, currently got W2 adventure boots as I figured the vibram sole would withstand this better than the old army assault boots which the sole shredded. I hope that makes sense. Ian |
Surprised to hear of "shredding" of boots if you don't go off road, ergo ... you're not standing on the pegs much. It's standing up when riding off road that typically eats up boot soles.
Most pegs are fairly standard .. and many are interchangeable. I'd bet you could find some options at a good breakers yard. Only the peg itself needs replacing ... but could replace the whole arm if you could find one that fits, but might be a challenge. Doing just the pegs, should be easier to find ones that fit. Most older bikes used pegs with thick rubber pads on them. They may raise your feet up a touch. Usually it's just a little cotter pin to pull out to swap them out. If you do go off road be careful if rubber pegs are wet. Slippery. The stock off road style steel pegs on my DR650 Suzuki are a saw tooth pattern but are not sharp ... as some off road pegs are ... so are fairly gentle on boot soles. Unlike the Race pegs on my former WR250F. Good hunting. bier |

Hi Molly dog, yes I was surprised that my boots shredding, mainly on my gear lever side so I figure it is the rubbing of the sole on the teeth of the peg. The only thing I can think is I lowered the lever slightly so I did not have to keep lifting my foot of the peg to change gear.
Who knows? I will try the temporary fix until I can source some different pegs. I have a friend who is a car mechanic so getting some hose won't be an issue. Thanks Ian |

thanks for the links guys, will have a look at the kedo pegs, I am going round to my local bike garage first he sometimes has spare bits lying about, with a bit of luck he might have something.
I am sure I seen for other models inserts for existing pegs, I know SW motech do what they call on road off road pegs but they don't seem to do them for xt 600's :( I have had a look for something similar to the drz pegs in uk but they all seem to be just toothed rather than having inserts. Once again thanks |
although just looked at the foot peg covers from Germany and at approx. £24 pound shipped I might give them a go, any one use them and know what they are like ?
