Spark plug spanner ?
 

I know it seems a small problem but when I try to get my plug out using my socket set with universal joint etc It's a *&%^* ing nightmare!

WHAT do I need to get (off ebay if poss) that I can carry on the bike and use without taking all of the skin off my knuckles and not feel like I am cross-threading it every time I put it back??

could nt remove my without buying the tool from yamaha didnt cost much but still a pain had to remove tank as i have a acerbis 23 litre , but open to advice from others

i use a 21mm box spanner...i think its 21mm,im away from the bike at the mo,

I ended up making one from a bit of pipe welded onto the right size socket.
Once cut to the length that will fit between the oil tank and plug, I just drilled a couple of holes for a screwdriver to got thru to turn it,
It works a treat and doesnt take up any room.

yes, I know what you mean, putting it back is the main problem as a standard socket doesn't have that rubber bit or a magnet or spring clip. Koken and stahlwille both do tasty 18mm plug sockets.
or
Motion Pro make a plug socket, its specifically for XR400 and TT600 and looks just right for the job. heres the first one on uk google Off Road Only Ltd PLUG WRENCH MOTION PRO

and if you are fiddling trying to hold the adjuster when you do up locknut on valve clearance they do a tool for that too.

True. But as the original question was

I thought it was a reasonable suggestion. OEM toolkits do come up on eBay from time to time, and the plug spanner in the kit is both compact and useable.

hi there
may be a bit late but is mabe helpfull. how ever you losen the plug that should not be to tight! and if you can put a small amount of copper greas on threds. should be about 18nm so not alot.
any way with all plugs a lenth of thick ruber pipe with the plug in the end will help get the plug started saftly. NKG do sell them but anthing will do good for overhead cam cars.

they have the rubber bit to hold the plug when putting back in

at 12'' its bit long to get under the frame - just cut it to size and re drill hole.
