starter problem XT600E
hi - i´ve got litle problem - my XT600E ´98, has only 22000 km and suddenly when I push starter button and release it, it still trying to start... http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif even if I pull the key out! it still start... does anybody knows what is it??? I checked button - ok - then check and clean starter unit - ok - even rele (I dont know exactly how to call it in English - it is that thing bettwen batery and starter unit on + pole http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ) it is ok too http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif(( i´m reaky confused - I love this bike but I can´t repair it http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif((((

Hi. I've had that to.. check the cables that connect to the solenoid [ the one that is connected to battery+ that connects to the starter motor. the starter button you press is also connected to that thing. the cables might be making contact with eachother....

i have the same problem with my xt600e 1993. It trying to start even if my key is out ! My battery is toast now. I checked all relays, it is fine. Any ideas what should i look ? Thanks in advance. |
hi there i think the starter solanoid is stuck in the on position , try a new one or as sugested a wire may be shorting out , but i think its the solanoid (positive battary wire go,s to it and starter wire go,s to it also 2 smaller wires go to it ) good luck zigzag

Yep same as Zigzag says, starter solenoid has arced internally caused by flat battery or excessive cranking. Remove it and bang it on something solid might free it up, or replace it.

Yup, new solenoid, new battery and possibly new regulator/rectifier is the way to go!

Most of the times when this happens it is all due to a non-working regulator/rectifier!
This part is what actually keeps you battery charged! If it goes you end up deep cycling the battery and waste it which by itself can damage the solenoid! I suggest you replace the regulator/rectifier! This has happened to me and has happened to several of us on here too! The culprit is the non-working regulator/rectifier so I suggest you to replace it or end up buying even another new battery! In my case I even "panicked" and threw my keys about 15meters away! lol Vando beer |
My starterrelay/solenoid got stuck aswell, drained the battery by cranking for several minutes (so it seemed anyway) I disconnected the battery whic was flat, put it on a charger, gave the relay some loving with a screwdriver, and everything worked.
I bought a new relay for peace of mind. The reg/rec have lived for 10-20.000km past that before I replaced it becuase I thought it was dead. But some wires were corroded, so the reg/rec was actually still fine. Battery same same, and its 8 years old. |
