Starting Problem

Have a 1996 Yamaha DT125-R 2 stroke with kick start. I've just bought it and am planning to sell it to fund a bigger bike.
It has been sitting for about a year and hasnt been started at all in that time. I've tried kicking it over for about 15 mins and all I've ended up with is a sore foot!! The bike is mechanically good but lack of use suggests it just doesn't want to start for me. Any suggestions???

Clean out the carb and the petrol tank, put in fresh fuel, make sure there is a good spark at the plug and try and start it, good luck

As Dave says - petrol now-a-days can go bad within a month or two!!!!!!! You can smell its off... And if the bikes just been left standing since last run, odds-on the carb will be gummed up with fuel residue!
