Startor motor
Please help, when I tried to start my bike this morning the following happend; pushed the start button, the bike did not fire, when I removed my finger from the start button the startor motor was still turning, I then pushed the kill switch which did not help, following this I turned the ingnition to off and this did nothing. The startor motor turned until the battery was flat.
What could be the cause of this? Thanks JRM |
Seems that the starter relais has stuck in the engaged position. Never heard of that.
But check the following: Follow the big wire from the + of the battery to a thingy with two big nuts on it. The wire is connected to one of the nuts, the other nut is connected to another wire that goes directly to the connection on top of the starter motor. Remove the relais and check that, when not energised by the pilot wire (small wire) it does not connect the two nuts with each other. If it does connect the two, open it and repair or replace the item. If it does not, it must be that somehow you have a short bypassing your starterbutton. Succes! Auke |
yes, this is the starter relais.
it can happen, had same experience several times. all you can do in this situation is to disconnect the black (!) cable from the battery as fast as possible. a slight hit with a hammer or something may release the relais. if it happens again you should change the relais. if you use something else than the yamaha relais you must be aware that the relais must be capable to switch 70 A. best regards klaus |
Hi Guys,
I have got the bike going again. I disconnected the startor motor, then replaced the battery (battery was old and needed to be replaced) and once that was done I turned the ignition to 'on' and pushed the 'kill' button as this was still in from earlier, I could hear the relai 'click' back into the correct position. Then I simply connected the startor motor and she fired up straight away. Thanks for the information. JRM |
