Sticking valve
Hi while riding my TTR 600 yesterday I thought that the tappet noise was a bit louder it was running fine.
I stopped for a short time when I started the bike it fired up and then cut out stright away. I tried the kick starter again but there was alot less compression I was sure some thing bad was wrong but the bike did start again after a short time and the compression seems to be ok again. I am guessing a valve is sticking, is this likley and if so what causes it. I just rembered am pretty sure my bike has a non standered cam so maybe this is the problem or do valves sometimes just stick. What do you think Thanks |
Possible carbon build from the cam change and not being set up correctly......

Do the TTRs have a de comp ? lever or mechanism sticking ? I have never had a sticky valve only failures where the timing chain was the cause..
How much more aggressive is the cam you have in it ? did you need to replace the valve springs with the new cam ? |
yes I beleive it does have a decompression lever but its automatic....

Hi thanks for replys
The bike does have a decompression lever this is cable operated automaticaly from the kick start. I have checked this and is working ok I also had a look at the tappets and are all correct also checked the spark plug it was a little bit dark but not to bad. If I want to invesgate further I need to take the head off I did start to take the rocker cover off but a couple of screws felt like they would strip the threads and the exhaust studs are also very rusty and will probadly break if I try to remove. I have put every thing back together and see what happens. |
