Stiff kickstarter on TT600R

Hi,
My TT600R has a really stiff kickstarter, although it hasn't always been like this. It happened after i'd had it for a couple of months.
When i push down to start to find TDC the lever swings and then goes solid just before TDC. I then have to carefully push hard to move past this position, and then push softly to roll it onto TDC. Its a bit of a pain, but i'm used to it. The only really bad thing is that when a friend tried to start it he didn't listen to me and snapped the boss in two as he kicked it into the solid "1st" position.
As i said its not a big problem, but exactly the same thing has happened to my friends TTR so now i'm curious.
PS. i changed the decompression cable on mine a while ago and it made no difference.

Maybe it is just the setting of the decompression cable. With engine running, push back softly the little lever on the cylinder head. After about one mm you should feel the R/H ex valve rocker. If not, adjust the cable.
Correct adjusmtent of the cable makes it far easier to kick the engine past TDC end of compression.
