Stuck oil strainer nut on XT600
I've just bought a bike which has been run on very low oil levels. The oil filter is in a terrible state so as well as replacing that I thought I should check the oil strainer in the front tube of the frame. The nut, however, seems to be stuck solid. Is there a trick to getting this out (like a reverse thread maybe)? If not is it really necessary to check it? Any advice would be very welcome.

Preferably use a single-hex socket if you can get one long enough to fit over the nipple, or a single-hex ring spanner if you have one.
Otherwise use a good fitting ring spanner and heat up the frame tube where the strainer nut screws in which will expand the tube slightly and allow the strainer to undo easier. To heat it, use a propane torch, or a heat gun would be better than nothing. Keep heating it until you can undo it. Bob |
Id had to weld levers onto them in the past

They are on there really tight. Mine was spotless after 70.000km

Mine also was the same , difficult to take off to clean. I left it alone and bought a new one for future when I do change it cause I might destroy that one when I take that one off.
