Swapping a bash plate?
Hi there
Does anyone know if a bash plate from an early pre-90 XT600 will fit a later E model without modifications? Thanks. |
bashplate
TTR model fits but leaves some external parts unprotected. I heard that the better one should be the one from Tenere 600 with electric starter, being wider. XTZ 660 model does not fit, unless u do some cut&welding

Rack
's Far as I know XT's were never fitted with a bashplate, but with a kind of frame to give minimal protection.
The engine of the E-start XT6 is in outside form and dimension the same as that of the E-start 600 Teneres, so the bashplate from the Tenere would be the one. However, the mounting points are different, but should not be too much of a challenge to make it fit. Auke |
Thanks for the replies:thumbup1:. Now I`ll have to look out for one - the original frame type thing looks quite useless.

weld plate on to the frame
just do what i did..weld 1.5mm thick plate on to the 'frame thing' bashplate it works ok and if you need to you can add sides to it or a higher front. im happy with mine as is... OK its UGLY but so is the bike, being 17 yrs old and everything, the plate has had a fair few rocks bounce off it and been bashed against logs and boulders in anger and through general bad riding... but its saved the engine and thats all I care about.

Long time!
Hi there,
I know this is a pretty old thread but i'm very interested in Martynbiker's idea of welding plate to the guard thing. However, does this affect the engine in any way? I mean, this way the engine is pretty much covered and all the bash plate examples i see around have holes in them. Is it for weight issues or cooling issues? Both? Thanks in advance. |
Be careful what you cover, I have to remove the bashplate on my xt600 Tenere to change the oil.
Martynbikers plate looks like it might hold water/mud leading to corrosion. |
I found an old one for my '03, required to drill 2 holes, thats about it.
Really dont know which year it was from, but i could take pictures showing what it looks like on the bike? |
Thanks guys, i came up with a solution similar to the above but didnt weld anything, just attached it the the 'frame' bit with some piping clamps (don't know the term). This way it's not permanent!
