Sylinder head XT 600 1vj 86 mod.
Hi,
As title says I`m in a desperat need of a sylinder head and cover for my bike. Have looked at several but all 1vj head have the same problem with worn out bearing seat for camshaft. Is there head and cover from other models that are interchangeable, like 2kf, 43f, 34l,3aj ? I find some from other models that look better than my old one. Or is there anyone that know a good way to fix this problem or a shop that can restore my old head and cover ? |
the bearing seat can be rectified with a ball mill and then mating surfaces shaved to bring back to tolerance. A friend in italy does this. take it to a VERY good machine shop and show them...
as for swapping head versions, not everything fits, might be beter to swap head and cylinder.... read here: https://www.tenere.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3526 |

Turboguzzi : Thanks for the link to the Tenere forum.
I have spoken to some machine shops but here in Norway they can not do the job they say. Xtrock : i was i germany on hollyday and visit the store but it has the same problem as mine so it did`t go home with me. |

This one is not in germany but from UK. As he told me they had only one 1vj head and cover but they had some from other models, he also said that if you buy online and part don`t fit they will take it back. Did not take the chance to buy one that my not fit.
I see now after checking part nr on head and cover that I have that head has 1vj stamp but cover has 5y1 that I see after searching it up is for a 82 XT 550, sylinder has 34k01 and engineblock has 1vj. I have also one XT in working order and ther in the engineblock 1vj, sylinder 34h03 and sylinder head is 1vj so it looks like Yamaha just took the part that that was nearest and used that. Question will then be, what series of head and cover will be the best choice ? |

Wil send a message and ask how condition on camshaftbearing is.
It is hard to tell if there have been changed parts on the engine earlier, I will cheack around a bit more to see if I get some answers on this. |
not every part gets superseded with a new code for each model, so that 550 cam cover is not necessarily "wrong".
i definitely remember a thread in tenere.co.uk discussing heads and cyls compatibility, search for it. what my friend used to do was remove the minimum amount from the journal with this ball end tool and then reface the mating surface the exact same amount. worked perfectly even on racing engines show your machinist this picture... https://rtjtool.com/23mm-dia-4-flute...bide-end-mill/ |
