Tenere rear spring load?
 

Hi guys.

Anyone here know what the original spring load is on the rear suspension of a Tenere? Is it the same as the ordinary XT?
Finaly got around to mount my panniers,and decided to see how it sits when I load it up.
It didn´t take long to realise that the original shock is a bit on the soft side.
So I tightend up the preload,but Im not convinced that this is a good solution in the long run.

Another thing: On my bike the chain rollers were missing when I bought it, so I made my own,used a pice of PVC-Nylon.It has worked okey,but I now ordered the original ones.And I have to say that they look flimsy:eek3:

Are these things really gona last? It´s just a pice of spongy tube with a plastik bush inside. Doesen´t look very convincing.

Hi Tom,

Looking at a couple of references I have it looks as though the XT600 & the Tenere are different (circa late 1980s).
If I have translated correctly, the XT 600 is 226.5mm to 247.5mm,
and the Tenere is 235mm to 255mm.
The XT600 damping adjuster is stated as position 1 soft, 2 standard, 3-4-5 stiff.

I also have a 3AJ Owners manual and it says "The length of the spring (installed) changes 1mm (0,04 in) per turn of the adjuster. S.T.D Length 235mm (9.3 in); MIN Length 224.5mm (8.8 in); MAX Length 239.5mm (9.4 in). Never turn the adjuster beyond the maximum or minimum setting.

Thanks for the info Geoff.
The bike still feels a bit saggy. The damper it self seems to be working fine so I think a stiffer spring might do the trick.
