Thought on front sprocket wear..
Im half way to Cairo with a lot of time for thinking...
Regarding my previous post regarding my front sprocket wearing away at the thickness: Auckeboss and Fred mentioned having similar problems. Had your transmissions been rebuilt before experiencing this? The reason i ask is that it occurred to me that possibly this wear is caused by adjustment changes in the countershaft (from replacing that damn 5th gear). The clymer manual mentions shimming of this shaft (though only very briefly). Could this extra movement (in and out on the shaft), be the cause? Im by no means an expert, this is pure conjecture! |
Naaah. There's no shims in m y bike, I even have a manual telling me that no shimmig is required. So that's not the issue.
Coming to think of it, oce I ordered the original chainset from Yamaha. With this set and front sprocket same 'problem'. So probably Japanese f.ck.p, but one I can live with. Auke |
Just put some thin spacers behind the front sprocket so next time you don't get the same problem. This solved mine.
