You already have a 47t rear with that 14 front ? Might as well go down to 13 front. Each front tooth difference is equal to 3 teeth in the rear.
This will officially be the lowest geared bike I know of, at 90kph the motor will be maxed out on the rpms. Sorry just can't figure this one out. I've always noticed when something is geared too low, it makes first gear worthless so you have to shift right away, and then again, which is slower takeoff than proper gearing. |
4800rpm at 90, not too bad...
Its great for woods riding, especially on the xt600e, with the huge gap between 1st and 2nd gear. |
Even with that gearing ? You sure on that ? I have 16/42 on my 3TB motor and it still is 3600 at 55mph (90kph), was 4200 with the 15 T. The newer ones must be really, really internally geared high. With 13/47 I'd be somewhere in the 5800-6000 range
As a comparison , one of my kicker xt's has 16/38 and it runs only 3300 at 55 (90kph) a little lower. These are just highway commuters, not real good offroad. |

Your TT600RE has the exact engine as a 1990-1994 XT600E. So when you order front sprockets do NOT order front sprockets for the TTR600, they have the same spline pattern but are way thinner. The rear sprockets patterns are the same on the TT600RE and XT600E (but the TTR600 has a different pattern) I, like yourself, ended up with 14/47 on my old TT600RE. It is a good ratio if one is riding below 100 km/h. I now have a XT600E and have tried a few different combinations of front/rear sprockets. The fact is that if you go too low you wont be using the torque of the engine effectively. You now have gearing close to perfect IMHO. Go one up on the rear if you want to change. |
I have a USA model 1986 XT. Stock gearing is 15/42. I like to use either 14/42 or 15/45. This is the same 3 to 1 ratio. Unless you are hi way causing at lower elevations then I think this is the perfect ratio. Good around town and good in Colorado at over 14000 feet.

NOT wanting to stress the engine,it already sounds like a bag of nails! |
If its geared like the E model, it will do aorund 4000rpm at 100km/h (depending on tire) So theres plenty of room to gear it down.
Im running 15/47 for street with a SM tire, so going down 2 tooth in the front for the woods, with a taller rear tire isnt that radical at all. |
Some where along the line I think that what I was originally asking has got lost.
To recap. Im running a 2003 tt60re with a 14 front sprocket. Standard gearing which is,according to the owners manual 15/47. I would like a bit more initial accerleration. Im NOT interested in top end speed and don't want to go offroad. I appreciate ALL the advice already given. Thank you |
Did you manage to find a 13 CS sprocket?
I bought mine on the german ebay, its made by PBI. Front sprocket is called "ritzel" cant seem to find anything just now, but they're there from time to time. |
TBH I haven't looked as I didn't know w hat I was looking for. It's tonight's web mission. Thanks.:thumbup1:

I cant find a 13 tooth front sprocket ...whats the rear equivalent??
|
1 front equals 3 in the rear.
|
treat me as a thick bugger..if I was to want the equivilant of going down to a 13 tooth front on the rear what rear sprocket size do I 'want?...
