tt250R.....good,bad or ugly?
anyone have experience with this bike? can it handle a trans-africa trip? the size doesn't necessarily bother me, but i just haven't heard much about it.

I have just purchased one here in Oz for a bit of Adventure riding, popular here because of the following: Cheap Bulletproof engine Light and manouverable Relatively fuel efficient easy to repair Heaps of accessories available. Oil coolers, tanks etc etc available. Best set up with soft luggage I would think. That is what I will be using... Did heaps (6 months) of research before deciding. Looked at KLR/KLX/XT/XR. The engine has been around since the ark in one form or another and yes Lois did both Africa and South America on versions. A bit more road orientated than say a XR250R and if you are not to fussy about top end speed. Trans Africa I guess can be done on anything with two wheels and I think has been. Keep up the oil changes and you shouldn't have an issue. Sump only holds 1100mls. (extra with oil cooler available from Yamaha) I like them because I am a bit of a light weight both in size and they way I tend to travel with gear. A brilliant bike!
I have one too, a brilliant trail bike (for travel solo and light!), check my blog to see it in action. Next febreruay i´ll head down to Chilean Patagonia.

nice bike raid version has a bigger tank early bikes only had electric start best to get the version that includes the kickstarter. Sprag clutches can start slipping and Valve seals can wear but not a major problem to repair either problem.

:thumbup1:I have a 1994 TTR 250 its by far the best bike Ive ever owned, cheap to run, relaible more than competent off road. Mine has done half way RTW and trips to Morocco and Ireland. Ive raced it in the weston beach race, green lanned it and commuted on it for 3 years no worries its never missed a beat. Mine dont have the extra kick start but you can get round that with some compact jumper leads, although its never needed them. It struggled 2 up with snowboards high up in the seirra nevadas in spain but it just plodded on. Dont really know what the top speed is but its fine on the motorway.
