TT600RE 03 electrical misery

Hello all. A few days ago I stalled my bike pulling onto my property. Realised when I turned the ignition off the starter was still spinning. Key was out, kill switch was over but still going. Then intermittently turned a couple more times then nothing.
It ran the battery down to 1.6v when I checked.

Anyway today I tried a good known working fresh battery. As soon as I connected it the starter motor stated spinning for a few seconds (no key in & ignition off) then stopped and the battery started smoking/squeaking and getting hot at the top between terminals.

I'm going to check handlebar switch gear, ignition barrel connections it I can get to it, starter motor wiring and connections.
Anything else I need to look at and or test/replace.

Bike is an 03 tt600r

Thanks.

I think your right from what I've found on other posts.

Yes, sounds like typical starter relay (contacts welded together) usually caused by old or chinese relay, or if battery is tired.
