just changed from bridgestone bt45 battleaxe to bridgestone gritty tyres on my tt600r.within 2 miles of my first outing at about 10 mph on a left hand bend the front tyre went from under me,they just let go!the tyres are road legal enduro knobblies and i think are UNSAFE for tarmac use.the bike went into the other lane and i skidded 10 yards on my ass,sever road rash to knees and elbows,pulled something in my shoulder.ive had loads of bikes with allsorts of tyres and never encounted this,the road surface was fine and no sign of deisel.no damage to the bike except slight fork twist and scrathed bar end.:( wish id had somemore bt45,they are great for all but wet offroad.

Tyres scrubbed in?

That is a bitch - too late to ask it now, but are you sure that the tyres were "scrubbed in"?;- first 50 miles or so gently, to get the release mould off the tyre surfaces.
The way you tell it you might have come straight from the tyre fitting shop?

hi dave,yes i was scrubbing them in.i normaly take that corner at 20mph as i know it well,regular route.the front tyre literally slid from under me.ive looked on the web and nobody has a good word for this tyre.just my luck:( .i have no confidence in them now and shall be changing again,when i can bend my limbs again,lol.im walking around like a incontenant 90 year old.:confused1:

come on mate, you have to look at the tyres and think for yourself a little bit, look at the contact patch on cornering, its absolutely tiny, bridgestone gritty are basically road legal MX tyres.

it aint the tyres fault, you were riding them too hard for what they were designed for

I've used a Gritty (ED661) front on the DRZ and found it no better or worse than any other enduro / mx tyre. They all rumble and wobble a bit and will give the sphincter some exercise on wet tarmac if you push too hard.

I run mooses so the first few miles on a new tyre for me are made worse by the tyre being covered in rhino-munk.

I think your tyre was contaminated or not scrubbed in or maybe way too hard. Check the pressure; sometimes tyre fitters get them up to 45psi to seat the bead.

Just a few thoughts................what pressure did you run the Gritty's at?
if yourun them the same pressure as your ordinary trail/road tyres you will certainly come a cropper. I suggest about 15 to 19psi max. Gritty's are an OFF ROAD bias tyre made road legal to allow enduro competitors to ride legally on road between sections of an enduro competition.

Once you try them OFF ROAD you willnot go back to trail/road tyres.

Might I suggest the best compromise I have foung in the Pirreli MT21 rallye cross fun at the above pressures 15 to 19psi.

I learned this lesson the hard way also. Years ago I had a new set of tyres fitted to my car. 20 miles away an Audi stopped in front of me. weather dry summer day. It felt like I was on black ice, no traction at all, road surface perfect, was not even a hard stop let alone emergency. I rammed it :(
To be safe you need to allow a couple hundred miles to scrub in new tyre, and at ten miles they are nowhere near 50% capable.
Besides, whats wrong with incontinent 90 year olds :)

I take my new tyres on a gravel road first,that gets the slippery stuff off them.Mind you,I only have about three corners before I find some gravel.

What PRESSURE were you running? Come on now, tell the truth?
