Tyres that fit 34L?
Hi,
I'm trying to find a rear tyre for my XT600 34L. I've currently got an Avon Gripster AM24 fitted but find it a bit slippery in the wet. From the reveiws I've read it seems like the Metzeler Enduro 3 would be a better bet, but I' not sure if they make them in the correct size ie. rim mt2.50 x 18 and tyre 460/18. I know the Metzeler Enudro 1 and Avon Distanzia AM44 fit but can't find any reveiws on these regarding performance on wet roads. Has anyone had experience with these or know of an equivalent/better type that would fit and be aimed at 80% road biased and 20% off road? Cheers Stephen |
Hi
You can fit any tire in 120/-- 18 or 130/-- 18 That’s the new sizes than goes with a 2.50 rim The End 3 is more like 60%-40% For road use maybe better to use the Pirelli MT60, the MT 90 Skorpion AT or ST. And in Metzeler the Tourance Regards Javier www.DakarMotos.com |
Hi Mate
On my XT i run Pirelli MT 70s. A 90/90/21 Front and a 130/80/18 on the Rear they give good all round grip in the wet and the dry, even when my bike is fully loaded on the dirt they still give plenty of grip. The Bridgestone Trailwing also offer good grip and are worth a try. Skip |
Go with Mr. Bib
I would avoid the Metzeler Enduro for sure.
I'm surprised you are having wet grip issues with the Gripster. How many miles on it? And what age is it? What pressures are you running? Very old Gripster get slippery. All this matters. The Distanzia is good for what your asking and should provide better wet grip and better grip in general at the expense of tire life. The Michelin Anakee I believe comes in your size. Fantastic wet grip as well and lasts well, but not as long as a Gripster. The Metzeler Tourance is long lasting and grips will but won't quite match the Distanzia or the Anakee. The Pirelli's are great tires but DO NOT last. The Wings are much better than most people realize but won't match the above ones. My choice? Anakee. Good luck. Patrick |
I found a website with rider reviews that was very informative. It has to do with klr 650 however I can't see much difference. It has reader opinions, on nearly every brand and model of on/off road tyre. Shoot me an email so I can send you the link if you are interested. I'm not smart enuf to know how to post it here. Thanks JK

matter gravel/asphalt. I have riden on Metz Enduro 3, tyre is OK, but nothing more even my expiriences on wet surface with End 3 were good. But altogether, T63 is the best tyre I rode so far. I recommend them to all riders no matter where are they riding. T63 are noisy tyres so that could be iritating for some souls. AnteK, XTZ 660 |
Thanx for the replies, I'm going to try do some shopping around on the weekend.
