valve inspection cover
Hi
I've got a really annoying leak from one of the front inspection covers on my 1VJ. I've replaced the O ring, and used gasket sealer, but to no avail. Any tips? Dave |
The O-rings are easily twisted and split when tightening up the covers, a bit of engine oil on the O-ring and the mating surface will help. Also they dont need to be that tight as the heat seems to tighten them up.
If they are still leaking I would say the cap is distorted (cheap from yamaha) or the mating surface is scratched. Good luck! |
I had the same, thinking that it was the valve insp cover did change the O-ring, used liquid gasket etc. Eventually it turned out that the joint between head cover and head was leaking.
First check all allen bolts: tight enough? Second action would be to remove the cover and reinstall with the correct gasket fluid. I am using nowadays high-temp stuff from Wurth, expensive but stops the oil. Auke |
Thanks Auke
I've just replaced the valve cover and O-ring, and come to the same conclusion. All allen keys are tight. Is it a quick and easy job to remove the cover? Dave |
With some practice, guess you could do it in about 2 hrs. Make sure to put the piston at TDC, both valves closed. You need to remove the carbs to tilt the cover backwards and off. Take care of the allen bolt under the frame attachment, when reinstalling cover put it in (in the cover) before you tilt the cover back on.
