What glue to re-stick foam air filter
Hi all,
The oiled foam air filter of my 3AJ tenere is coming apart at the seams. Can anyone reccomend a glue that will stick it back without attacking the foam? Is it even possible to get the foam oil free enough for glue to work? I have cleaned it with Motorex foam air filter cleaning solution, and will give it a second clean if it is possible that glueing will work. Thanks Mark |
clean with water and soap, glue with silicon. I did so and worked :rolleyes2:

I would throw it away. I wouldn't want to risk it coming apart. |
Foam filter repair
I build filters out of bulk uni filter material. In the states I use a product called "E6000" which is a super gooey silicone product. Another thing that I use that would work with a oily filter is a good quality nylon sewing thread or perhaps dental floss in a pinch. Sew the foam together and seal up the sewing holes with glue. I also second Big Yellow Tractors comment that it isn't worth taking out an engine for the cost of a air filter. But if you are in lower slobovia and there isn't any filter available.....fixit to get on with the trip.
