Where to get battery for my XT (UK).
Anyone got tips on good places to buy batteries? I've been quoted £59 for a new maintenance free battery for my 2003 XT 600E by my local Yamaha dealer and wondered if there was somewhere that could do me one a bit cheaper.

This one is universally recognised as the very best battery money can buy BUT it's pretty expensive compared to most others -
ODYSSEY PC310 12V 310 Cranking Amps - Odyssey Batteries - Odyssey Drycell Batteries :thumbup1: Dimensions(mm) 138 x 86 x 101 Features: 12 Year design life and 6 to 10 year service life 99.9% pure lead providing minimal plate corrosion Explosion proof Corrosion proof 2 to 3 times the cranking power of equilivant size battery Spill and leak proof Superior vibration resistance Fully Charged out of the box I fitted one to my beloved XT (1999) and it's a great little addition. But at £100 cheap it aint. It's much much better than a standard OEM Yausu and has far more cranking power... |
Thanks Neil,
I think that looks a bit out of my budget. Have to buy a new rear tyre and some rear suspension bushings as well to get it through its MOT. Thanks for the tip though. One to remember for the future. Might be worth fitting if I take the bike on another big trip. Matt :) |
Matt,
Fair enough, I admit it's a bit on the steep side (but worthwhile on a BIG RTW). What tyres are you intending to fit? I have just fitted another set of Michelin SIRAC's to my XT6E (2001). I was so impressed with the first set I decided to fit another set. I'd say they were 70% Road/Tarmac - 30% Mild Offroad/Dirt Track. I got about 7,000 miles from them which seems pretty fair bearing in mind their reasonable allround performance. They are pretty robust and agricultural in appearance compared to most other all-rounder Adventure type tyres. Michelin SIRAC
Michelin Sirac All the very best. Neil :mchappy: |
Matt,
I can recommend this bunch too for cheaper GOOD quality batteries. I have heard good things about Saito Batteries too - Motorcycle Batteries - Winner In German Magazine Tests Saito £35 - SAITO Self-Sealed Maintenance Free Motorcycle Battery CTX9-BS/YTX9-BS 12V/8AH A really good place to get most bike goods from and pretty cheap too. They normally deliver within 2 days and if you have a problem they are very helpful... NOTE - Most of their stuff is superb quality German stuff. |
Neil,
Thanks very much, that's a great tip re: the batteries. Also like the look of the Siracs. I like Michelin Tyres, they seem to be pretty good. It's a T66 I've got on the back just now, which I bought second hand (!) in Hungary to get me home. It's since done about 5000 miles! (Although it is almost completely smooth in the centre now!)
