Wiring harnass question (it's smoking..)
 

Hi all,

After reinstall of my 3AJ engine I reconnected the wiring from the engine; pretty easy since the connectors are unique (and I rechecked the diagram). and the remaining two could be color matched.

I had the coil disconnected since I was just going turn it over with the e-start to check for oil pressure.

However after around 10 seconds one of the wires started smoking.
It's one of the wires that was already connected, but I can't find it on the diagram.

It's a black cable that looks like it's grounded on the R/R:

It connects here. You can see the left connector is burned. It's then disappears into the loom:

Is this because I disconnected the coils? I read about CDIs and how they supply like 200V to the coil which then ups it to many more volts.
Maybe the 200V had to take another path to ground since I disconnected the coil? (i'm just shooting in the dark here).

It might just be a bad connector but I'd rather first know what cable this is exactly.

As I initially thought, apparently this is the actual R/R ground wire and the R/R is not grounded to the frame directly. Is this correct?
Why is it not on the diagram?

Can I run a wire straight from the R/R ground bolt to the battery negative terminal?

OK I'm a god damn idiot..........

At work something dawned on me.
I remember getting distracted when connecting the main battery ground cable because I noticed the smaller ground cable coming from the big ground cable and decided to connect that first. But I never remembered removing the startermotor bolts to connect the actual big ground cable. doh

So yeah, I forgot to connect the ground cable and the starter motor searched for another way to ground. :helpsmilie:. I really hope nothing got fried. Never expected the starter to turn so fast without that main ground.

Already replaced the molten connector and now all good. At least I've got oil pressure.. so that's that :ban:
