Worryingly low fuel comsumption?

Hi all,

I have recently got a 3AJ Tenere back on the road and put the first tank of fuel through it. Most of the distance was covered at 70 to 75 mph (120kph) on lowered gearing with maybe 40 miles of hard riding through back lanes, charging up and down the gears.

When I refiled the tank after 180 miles the fuel consumption worked out as 63mpg, or 4.5 litres per 100 Km. Initially I was very pleasantly surprised by how little fuel it is using, but now I am wondering if it is running worryingly weak.

Should I be concerned?

be proud

There is nothing to worry about. The 2nd carb has never been activated by your riding style which has kept the fuel consumption that low.

Rather than worrying, be proud.

OK, now I'm looking for your secret.
"Lowered gearing" What do you mean by this?

Thanks

My 1993 XT 600E used about 5,3 litres on 100km, when I was driving mostly about 40-70km/h. How does the 2nd carb system work? I mean, under what circumstances does it activate? :confused1:

Thanks.
