WP??Ohlins??
Can anyone help me please? I have read the postings about 'Options for rear shocks?' and am still completely confused. I'm trying to find a suspension that would be suitable for my boyfriend's XT600 3AJ Tenere, that could put up with both of us plus luggage-about 150kg. I am meeting him in Nairobi and we are heading for Cape Town along good and 'not so good' roads. I have called six dealers to try and get some advice and they all claim their shock will the be the best option; Technoflex, WP, Ohlins, original Yahama???. Please can anyone point me in the best direction, thank you.

If you want I can arrange for a rebuilt original Yammie one from Holland.

I've heard that you're better to stick with the OE shock, despite potentially having to replace it more often. It's a very good, cheap unit.
There's one advertised on Ebay at the moment. It's in Germany, but can be posted globally I think. |
Hello,
Speaking from experience......the stock shock is not the answer if you are looking for an improved ride with a total load of 150kg or more. I, myself, weigh in at 143kg and know the way it handles all day long....bouncy and likes to bottom out! I've got a "Works Performance" custom shock coming in the next week or so. I know that you would be sorry if you did not upgrade your shock before this trip. May I also suggest that you upgrade the forks at the same time. An unballanced bike is worse than just leaving it alone. have a nice ride ------------------ JR |
I have phoned around a few more places and your advice has really helped, thanks.
