xt 550 put it back together with new cam chain and tension noise still there

Hello everyone i had a noise (ticking from top end) took it apart noticed cam chain slide was not sitting in the grove behid the magneto. So put it together right and chain was still loose replaced cam chain and tensioner bike started great. Took it for a ride yesterday and it started to tick again it sounds louder then before now. Its defenitly top end and i can only hear it at idel. Today i checked tensioner it was out 3 clicks so its fine rechecked valves to specs and ticking is still there can anyone point me in the direction to look thanks im almost positive its coming from top end.

Have disassembled the whole engine? I had a similar ticking and it was a worn piston and cylinder.

What a pain !!!!

Could be end-float on cam shaft or rocker shafts even? If its louder than before, may be something you've touched this time round? Never easy to diagnose on a forum.
