I am having trouble getting my bike to charge the battery via the generator.
Replaced the rectifier had the stator out and checked by west country windings, all ok. No AC from generator with bike running, don't know what to check next? On the stator there are a batch of windings of a similar size then 2 which are different/larger, does anyone know what the two larger ones are for, (not shown on wiring diagram) Any help in the above would be appreciated Thanks in advance ,, Smudge :confused1: |
bump ......... anyone?

I think the larger ones you mention are to power the CDI unit. The other ones are the generator windings, there should be three of them that go to a plug on the regulator aft of the battery. There is another wire in the loom but that is just the neutal indicator and is not part of the stator cct. With the bike not running pull the plug on the regulator (it has the three white wires from the stator and one red output wire) now check for continuity between all three wires and also check that it is open cct to ground (the stator is a 3-phase star conected cct). If there is an open cct between any two windings you will need to take the LHS cover off and check at the solder joint on the stator windings, probably just needs rejoining or worst case the winding is burnt out. If all ok then with the bike running check for voltage being generated between the pins of the plug, should see about 20V at idle upto about 50V at high revs nb this is AC not DC volts. If still ok clean the plug, re-insert and check for 14V DC output on the red wire comming from the regulator, if this is ok check the circuit breaker (push the little red button) near the starter relay. I will try and attach a diagram I found on the web, please excuse my blatent copyright abuse. Regards, Dave |
Thanks for that Dblun, I will check it out and see what I get.
Dont worry about the diagram .. I will sus it out I think ...Get back to you if I cant !!!!!!!!! |
