XT 600 E Brakes
 

Hi guys,

A few brake related issues here. I was hoping to upgrade my brake lines to braided hoses, was wanting to use Hel lines but they don't list any for the 3TB only later models.

I understand that the models after the 3TB used a larger disc (although I may have that wrong) is the caliper the same? And are the brake lines the same but just a slightly different length? And where have you got your braided lines from?

Second issue. My rear master cylinder needs an overhaul as the piston (for want of a better word) that goes up and down into the master cylinder is rusty and horrible. The pedal will go down but it wont go back up without a pull! Not handy. Wemoto don't know when they'll get the rebuild kit in for the 3TB, is the same rear master cylinder used in the later models? As David Lambeth has rebuild kits available for them I think.

Any help would be super!

I have never come across a company as helpful as HEL - give them a ring, they know exactly what's what with these bikes. I needed a set for my 3TB and I gave them the measurements as there were none listed and it came back as the same as the 4PT model i.e. '96 onwards.

Seriously - they were really helpful. Buy direct from them even if you can find them a few quid cheaper elsewhere, you'll have no issues at all if you need a hose altered or anything.

I got my master cylinder rebuild kits from ebay and the caliper kits from David Lambeth. The later master cylinders have different mounting points and the length of the actuating rod is different but the internals are the same. You get a nice stainless nipple, a new dust cover and some red grease in David Lambeth's kits which others don't include.

Thanks Alastair, what do you mean exactly by the 'brake actuating rod'? Is this the piston like bit that goes in and out of the master cylinder? That's the bit I'm having the issue with anyway!

Actually scrap that, I've just found a rebuild kit, quite possibly the one you were talking about, on ebay! Phew that's a nice feeling! bier

When you dismantle the rear master cylinder you'll find that the piston inside (the bit that pushes the fluid) is separate to the bit that attaches to the pedal. When I did mine I had to re-use the bit that attaches to the pedal (the actuating rod) as it was a different length to the one in the kit. All other bits fitted fine though.
