XT 600 head bolt length

1 Attachment(s)
Hello

85 xt600 kick start

I have several different size lengths for the M8 head bolts

Fiche shows to serial #'s
Fiche

Picture shows the 3 different sizes I have.
Trying to sort this out.

I want to measure what i have against a known good bolt.

Any issue that the bolts be reused or have they stretched.
Are the inserts for the head bolts able to take several tightens/releases?

Thanks in advance

I've reused head bolts mostly after a close inspection for any signs of thread rolling but you can't really see stretched bolts . I was thinking there is only 2 lengths of the big bolts , I just put the bolts down the hole and you can see when some are sticking up higher or lower then swap around till all are the same height . As long as the bolt goes in deep enough and the hole is deep enough to accept it that's all I worry about really . Roughly 1.5 x the diameter at minimum should thread in .

jjrider thanks

So both left and right sides are same length bolts?
Sorry for confusion I just have these 3 lengths and a bike with a history of being thrown together.

I'm putting back together and want to avoid another leak at gasket.

There is 2 lengths , one side is supposed to get something like 10mm longer than the other, I can't remember for sure but I think the cam chain side gets the shorter ones but not positive . Just put the bolts down the holes , they should all end up with the same amount of threads being threaded into the case.

If you have 3 different lengths and it has been a mixed up pile of bolts I'd recommend getting 4 new bolts from Partzilla .You want to know you have enough threads holding the torque, any that may not be from this motor may not be long enough, plus they technically are one time use bolts anyways I believe ,and bolts that have a questionable past may be best to replace .

Throw bolts in the bin and buy new!

Buying new bolts seems to be a problem with 2 of the bolts.
Parts

Bolts have a new part #90105-08465-00, haven't found it yet.

JJrider have you run into this and had a solution on cross reference?

Thanks

No , I've always had a pile of good used one to choose from . If you just buy the 2 that are available, I'll dig through my pile and give you those other 2 . I think some from a Raptor 660 work also , I have probably 10 of those .http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detai...-09648-00.html
