XT 600 Stator
Hi all
My 96 XT 600 had electrical problems :funmeterno: , and I've since traced it to the stator. I replaced the original yamaha stator(with what looks like resin all over it) to one of the chinese(I think) type ones off ebay. Has anyone had issues with these? My bike is now running great :funmeteryes: , but I was wondering, did I do the right thing? Would a genuine stator been the better way to go? They are hellishly more expensive, like 300 dollars compared to 80 dollars on the knock off one. Thanks in advance. |
never had to replace the stator, but just as an opinion -
mechanically, its quite simple object, wire is wound by machines, so maybe the main point there to consider in long-term reliability is insulation - around wire and around each "stem"... |
Thanks for the response. I noted that that original had what looks like resin around each post, but the aftermarket doesn't. Only difference I can see just by looking.

these guys are almost as cheap but at least you know who you are buying from and maybe even have some guarantee, even if form Australia its a stretch https://www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-...2ehtml#SID=200 |
I changed the original stator on a KLR650 at around 180,000km to a Chinese made one (the brand name was Caltic or something very similar). The choice was mainly because it was easily available but the fact it was only 20% of the cost was also appealing. The first was faulty on arrival and replaced immediately by the supplier. It's replacement lasted 50,000 km /2-3 years when wire insulation broke down.
So my experience is the copies are entirely adequate albeit unlikely to be as long lasting add the OEM option. So to answer your question I suspect your new stator will be fine for at least a few years and I would not worry about it. Sent from my moto g(8) plus using Tapatalk |
