XT 600e Carb Screw Setting
I have a XT 600e 4PT. Underneath the main carb is a mixture screw. Can anyone tell me what the default screw setting must be. (How many turns from closed) The bike have very slight jerking between 2500rpm and 3000rpm if I drive it. Before or after that ranges the bike performs 100%

The default setting is only a "typical average" position (not sure what it is for your model - 2 turns?).
The way to do it is warm emgine thoroughly. Set idling about 1200 rpm. Now turn the screw in until the engine just starts to slow/faulter - this is setting #1. Stop engine and count how many turns to wind it fully in (gently to the stop), then wind it back out to where it was, #1. Start bike again. Now wind it out until engine speeds up - keep going until it just starts to slow/faulter, counting how many turns you do from #1, this will be #2. Now you can set the screw to mid-point of #1 - #2. Simples! |

That was useful information pigford, I must save this thread for future reference.
I was getting 1 or 2 pops/backfires on decelleration from full throttle but since taking out the snorkel this has stopped and it is running great. RCerrie, as a matter of interest how many turns out was your mixture screw from closed? Keep us updated regarding the progress on the jerking at 2500rpm and 3000rpm. |

mixture screw on a 2002 xt600
Where is it. I have removed the round silver disc on the rh carb (right carb being.... sat on bike ....carb on right).i then bottled it and put it back on as there appeares to be a brass bit with a clip...i thought best stop there as carb may fall to pieces or never work again if I took the clip out?????

Leave the right carb alone, its the CV (vacuum) part of the 2 carbs.
The fuelscrew is located on the front bottom, on the left carb, inside a little slot. The screw should be around 2,5 turns out, from lightly seated. http://www.tenere.dk/forumnew/uploads/987/coscrew.jpg |
2,5 rounds out works fine, anyway this screw only does any difference in low rpm.
