XT 600E countershaft sprocket
I went to change the countershaft sprocket on my 1991 XT600E. This type is held with a single nut and lock washer.
The sprocket on there had been modified, and instead of being 15.6mm thick (this is the overall depth of the sprocket listed for the model and of the new one I bought), it had the flange reduced so that it was only 9.6mm thick. The reason I found for this was that there was a splined spacer, 6.2mm thick behind it, i.e. next to the oil seal plate, so spacer plus modifed sprocket = 15.8mm. The manual does not show a spacer there. Has any one else come across this? Was this a mod someone did in the past to accomodate another sprocket? My XT runs the standard 520 chain ( i.e it has not been modified to take a 530). I plan on simply removing the spacer and using the standard 15.6mm deep standard sprocket. Cheers |

Hi
I replaced my worn standard front sprocket with a renthal one. I was confused as well because the renthal one was thicker than the one it was replacing. After much head scratching i finally found the spacer, removed it and everything lined up as it should! I couldnt find any reference or mention about this spacer in the manual either. Hope this helps Bill |

Thankyou! It's a relief that someone else came across the spacer as well!

I just found a worn spacer behind the sprocket of my 2003 4pt!
It is about 4mm thick, the sprocket number is JTF1577-15. According to the JT website it is 9.5mm thick so Plus spacer gives 13.5mm The replacement part is listed as JTF577-15 (15.65mm thick). So it looks like there is no spacer needed with the new 577 sprocket. Hope this helps. and I hope it fits. |
