xt 600e leaking oil filter cap
Hi all. have very recently changed my oil and filter.easy enough!?
fitted new filter as well as new 'o' ring to filter cap. wound the the bolts in hand tight then nipped them up with hex key. now it wont stop leaking.more revs, more oil. as far as i can see the cap seems to fit as it should. has anybody had the same irritating problem and do you have any suggestions. would appreciate your feed back. thanks.:confused1: |
If you have used a new 'O' ring there should not be a problem. There's only two things I can think of:
1. you didn't nip the hex bolts up tight enough - from memory, they should be about 10 ft/lb, not stupid tight but firm 2. you twisted the 'O' ring on assembly and there is a gap for the oil to get out. If the oil is coming out in one specific place, that should be a clue. Other than distortion of the filter cover or engine casing, I can't think of any other explanation. My only oil leak from there was when I forgot to put the bleed bolt back in. |
Is it possible that the little O ring that fits in the cover where the bottom bolt goes through fell out? I'm not sure if it being missing would cause your problem, but Yamaha must have fited it for a reason.
You should be able to remove the cover to check for this without draining the oil if you put a block of wood, or similar under the back wheel so that the bike leans more than usual when on its side stand (but a little will leak out) Good luck Mark |
