xt handling problems
hi just fitted large acerbis tank to my xt 600 which has ruined the handling, the weight is now further forward and lower ,would fitting stiffer progressive springs or thicker fork oil help or do i just have to get used to it?

You could try stiffer springs as there is more weight due to the extra fuel....
|
If you fit stiffer springs, go for thicker oil. Before you spend cash, you could increase the preload by adding a spacer on top of the springs, in the past I've used large nuts, two equal lengths of tubing, flat wire springs(perfect), washers and 2p pieces for fine tuning+ heavier grade oil. The problem with doing this is the spring can become coil-bound(bottomed out) as you are effectively using some of the springs travel but it gives you an idea before laying out your hard earned.

Seems weird.
I went from 15ltr to 23ltr, thats around 5kg, some of the sits lover, so they shouldnt feel like 5kg. MY weight differs more than 5 kilo from time to time, and depending on what im wearing and carying. You sure its not just in you're head? Otherwise, try some of the optipns above. |
hi thanks for the quick response, maybe i am being over sensitive, but the strange thing is when the tank is full it handles ok.
|
Could it be the fuel sloshing around that's effecting the handling? you can get foam which is supposed to reduce this, I think Dennis Trollope racing sell it.
|
If the problem increases, when the weight decreases, you might wanna check the tire preassure, and play with it a bit.
Which handling issues do you experience? :) |
hi i know its never going to handle like an R1,but i was quite shocked when i chucked it into my fav bend only to find it handeling like a wheelbarrow of blancmange, well its not that bad but you get the idea.
i think when the tanks 1/4 full it sloshes from side to side, its something i will have to get used to its not like i'm a stranger to overweight dinosaurs,my other bike's a gsa, and my last 3 bikes have all had big tanks fitted with no lasting side afects so thanks for your help ben |
