XT Valve Clearances
HI,
Just bought a Clymer Manuel for the XT (83-89). My bike is from 2001 though... Can I use the manual valve clearances values? Is it necessary to check valve clearances in the intervals Yamaha recomends? Thanks and regards |
I've checked the valves on an XT600K 3TB of 1991 [22.000 km until stolen] and XTZ660 3YF of 1992 [80.000 km now] on several occasions and it was never necessary to adjust them. Except when I rebuilt the upper engine part @ 50.000 km of course.
So I would say, if you don't hear-em rattling, don't touch-em. ------------------ Fred, XTZ660, Holland. |
Out of adjustment valves only "rattle" if the clearance is on the lose side - my K100 ticks like a clock if they're loose.
If the clearances are on the tight side however, you may well not know about it, you may only suffer a slight drop in power whilst your valves are held open & possibly being burnt away at the edges. It's easy enough to check the clearances & easy to adjust as I believe they're screw & locknut tappets on the 600's? Steve |

I believe it is an easy task, judging by Clymer's instructions. Anyone knows if Clymer's values are still the some for my 2001 XT 600 E??? Thanks and regards, NCR |
I've not owned an XT600, so cannot answer directly.
