XT225 Serow - bad fluffy running
Just posting this for a mate - he's a 1986 serow which when it runs is great but it has an intermittent problem - every few miles it looses power, there are no revs to be had and it starts to die.... from what I gather it tends to be when pulling away from a stop...
He's had the carbs checked and started looking at the electrics - says one of the primary pickup coils resistance seems really low.... Has anyone any suggestions? or any figures for resistances in coils? Could it be the dreaded CDI? Also - did I see a while a go a link to a home made CDI unit with circuit diagrams etc.... Cheers, Tony. |

I don't know the Serrow either, but if it's anything like the 600's it would also be worth checking the carb to head stubs. On XT600's they are a 2 piece construction, part rubber & part metal which with age seperate and allow air leaks which can get worse as the engine heats up. Coincidently,I was searching the net the other day and came across a very good "common Serrow faults" page which would be worth searching out, sorry I can't remember the address Mark |
