XT550 Eletrical Gremlin......

Its old but its reliable EXCEPT when traversing water.
Any water I cross, if it gets over the rubber and touches metal my bike stats to blubber if the rpm is not high and feathering the clutch you will be pushing it out.

IT appears the ignition is going to ground through the water. Speed is not relevant, depth is not relevant. As long as the water floods over metal. :(

The bike has a battery eliminator, the rest of the electrical is stock.

Have you removed the side stand switch? My old 1982 XT550 did run fine except when wet (rain or river)…..

Mine did the same thing once.....
But after properly drying out the plug after this crossing....

She ran fine! :cool4:

As an alternative....your left-side crankcase cover might have a dodgy gasket letting in moisture to the ignition. :confused1:
