XT600 (55W) Wiring Loom
Looking at my wiring loom last weekend (as you do:rolleyes:), the earth wire going to the coil has completely melted the sheathing. It has also melted through some of the other loom wires and some terminals have also burnt. On inspection, somebody has been in there previously carrying out "repairs" which has lead to this pretty major damage.
I'm no expert but have done a soldered repair however I think I need to fit a new loom. Does anybody know:

Hi Gary,
I've had to do a fair bit of work to my loom on an XTZ660, to the extent where I removed it from the bike, took off all the outer covering, replaced a lot of the individual wires inside before binding it all up again. I was surprised to find inside the loom how the ends of wires were just stripped bare and spliced to others branching off somewhere else. A lot of them had gone black and tarnished. Just to let you know you can get all you need ie. the correct colour coded wires plus the same style japanese multiplugs and sockets, bullet connectors etc from Vehicle Wiring Products of Ilkeston Derbyshire. Don't know their website but I'm sure they have one. Try it - it's not as scary as you imagine, plus you'll make it a better job in the end. :mchappy: Ralph |
