XT600 crank lubcrication system?
Hi,
Can anyone explain to me how the XT engine's is lubricated? Especially the big-end. I found this picture: https://i.imgur.com/5Ssam9m.jpg ..where you can clearly see the oil holes and the path it takes where the oil comes out of the axle. However where does the oil actually come from? How does it enter ? Thanks edit: I found this https://media.rainpos.com/3847/80157.jpg It actually says oil enters from the axle.. but I don't see how this is possible. There is no opening on the axle and the end not connected to anything Does it somehow go through the crank cover via the oil filter and then through the actual axle? |
well, there should be an opening at the right side and yes, it is fed from the cover

Hi,the right hand end of the crankshaft rides in a seal in the clutch cover that fed by an oil gallery from the oil filter cavity. See the smooth, reduced section on the crank just outboard of the threaded section that hold the pinion retaining nut.

Ah I see it now.. Didn't have the case here to look at, but I can see it now on pictures. I'm guessing I should change that seal for a new one when rebuilding. Crank rotating in it for years. Thanks

The feed from the oil filter, that isn't the little hole that feeds into the oil drain bolt hole is it? Hopefully a pic attached with blue circle around the hole I'm referring to which doesn't look like a surface designed to mate up with a seal.
Edit: I'll answer my own question just in case, anyone pondering this especially if there overcoming the stripped thread in oil filter drain bolt conundrum. The feed to crank is coming from the seal adjacent to that circled feed from oil filter drain bolt, that drain being closed off when bolt is in place as seen in the diagram attached. |
