xt600 electrics
 
hi i was working on my 4pt xt600 the other week and when i tryed to start the bike the wires got hot . i stoped waited a min or so then it started ok and was running fine. i just tryed to start the bike today and the black wire that goes from the battery to the rectifier got so hot it burnt the plastic of the wire. why has this happened and how do i find the fault to fix the problem, any tips welcome

It's shorting out or there's a veeeery bad connection to the starter causing a resistance. Dismantle, clean and reassemble, especially the earth connection. Should do the trick.

I burnt my wire cos I never reconnected the earth to the started which I had removed ......

lol.. thank god it was only the battery cable..

if it was the TCI you'd be saying bad names all week long :P
the strange part is how the fuse didn't blow up to protect that... :\

all is well .i had forgot to conect the black wire to the starter and it was just resting on the engine. thanks for the replys

I had to find out on my own where to the black battery cable actually attached to as I didn't remember lol

Is the bike working now?

its working fine now thanks. i taped up the wire and it doesent seem to be any other damage
