xt600 kickstart grinding nosie when running

Hello, I have a 1984 xt600 it has a loud grinding noise by the bottom of the kickstart when it is running. If I push the kickstart down a little the noise gets less but its very still their.
Is this a hard fix or complex fix? suggestions or ideas would be great.
thanks

hi there it sounds like the mechanisum on the inside is not diengauging ,is the return spring ok ,dos the kicker return to the top ok , dos it stop short of the engine case or dos it rest on it , if it dos just move it round on the splines . if all is ok with where it comes to rest you need to take off the side caseing ,not a big job and find the problem , just follow your manual for caseing removal the kickstart mechanisum is not hard to understand just put the kicker back on and with the SPARKPLUG removed slowly oparate the kicker you will see the gears engage and hopefully see why they dont disengauge when the kicker is relesed back up . good luck zigzag

broken bolt

hello
I removed the sidecover and the kickstart gear and behind that their is a piece of metal that was held on with 2 10m bolts 1 of the bolts was grinding on the gears and it was total broken off on the engine block the other bolt came out but was bent has a #9 on the head.
the piece of metal has a tab ontop bent out a little.
I do not know what this did or what it was for?
thanks

hi there its a while since i had my side cover off , to check the crank nut and i did not disturb the kicker mechanisum . in my manuals it shows 2 bolts going in the tab washer/plates you say , if everything is ok just get 2 new bolts and tighten it all back together ,it maybe that someone has taken the kickstarter mechanisum out and forgot to use the tab washer / lock washer when they put it back together . look around the inside off the caseing for any bits of the broken bolt that may still be there and give it all a good wipe out . my xt has not had your problem so i am looking in the manual at the veries parts , if any of you guys out there can shine more light on the job ? hope this helps . zigzag

replaced parts

hello
I replaced the parts, and put it all together.
Now I can not get the bike to kick over, I dunno if I put the kickstart gear in wrong?
Is their a procedure on putting the kickstart gear and spring in?
thanks

hello
the link you gave me really did not help me any?
When I install the ratchet and kickstart gear are their marks to line them up?
also how do I check my hole automatic decompressor mechanism?
thank you

big problems now

Hello
I removed the sidecover and the kickstart gear.
It broke off the bottom the bolt to the kickstart stopper and the top bolt broke also but it broke a corner of the block off.
All I can think of when I first tryed kicking it over it was so hard to kick it must of broken at that point because of the ratchet gear and kickstart marks were not lined up?
Now I am totally mad at myself and do not know what to do or how to go about fixing the broken part of the block on the kickstart stopper top bolt?
also the bottom stopper bolt I can not get on to it straight because the clutch is in the way, I have never removed a clutch etc?
suggestions?
thank you
