Xt600 tenere 1986 wiring trouble
I've just picked up a new engine, it is a 1vj 1986 with electric start. The wiring is different to the 1vj I just took out. It has the 3 White wires to the rectifier, couple of twin colour wires. But it doesn't have a red and brown wire that goes into the cdi. Can anyone help?

You sure its not a later engine with tci ignition?

Ok i have figured out what the problem with the wires is. The electric start is off a 94 TT600re. Now am i wrong in believing that the alternator does not produce the charge for the coil ie it does not have the brown and red wires coming out.
Does anyone know where the charge for the ignition comes from? is it from the battery? Regards simon |
different system
The 'new' engine you have is, as suggested by G3off, with a TCI ignition system, so the 'energy' for the ignition comes from the charging system. I don't think it will work with your 1VJ CDI box as the charging voltage for the CDI is over 100 V while the 'household system' only produces 12 V.
The LH engine cover with stator and the flywheel from your old engine might fit, if so it's plug and play. If not you're in for a bit more work. A |
Ok thanks guys for your help, I shall look further into the tci, does anyone know if there universal or every tt600 model has a differnt one?
On another note I'm turning over the engine and I'm not getting any volts from the alternator, does the engine need to be turned over faster than a kickstart to get current from it? Regards Simon |
You probably have to convert the voltage regulator over to the newer style as well. Your stator has three white wires in a plug and two others in a plug? This means you have the tci style, mine is a 94 and has this setup. Without 12 v you will get no spark
