Xt600e 3TB 94 a few questions
I have an xt600e 1994 3tb model. its my first xt600 and my 2nd ever 4 stroke.
I have a few questions if anyone is able to help with any it would be really appreciated, or if there is anything of note i should know about the bike. 1. Is it possible to fit the later clocks with a rev counter? 2. Do i need to fit a support brace when replacing the silencer for aftermarket and if so does anyone have the dimensions or a source. 3. Are there any known screens that fit it well? 4. What sort of mpg should i be getting? 5. Do they all lean quite far on the sidestand? 6. Anything to note on carb settings? Im in sussex Uk. I currently have a stock filter but have a used DNA filter to replace it with. 7. Under the seat behind the airbox, should there be some kind of mudguard. mine has a section of spread out inner tube cable tied in place which looks awful. Again, any help or advice would be fantastic. Ill be riding down to Italy in August with 2 friends on xt660r's so want to get it up to spec and able to perform well alongside the more modern bikes. |
Givi aerotech screens work pretty well. Very adjustable and come up on ebay regularly.
Cheers Min |
congrats! first things first, if you are traveling in the second half of august, pm me and ill leave you my contact info just in case you need help. i am based in Milano. First half of august i cant help cause probly be in montengro/albania with my recently purchased DR350 (just dont tell anybody round here in Yamaha Tech :) )
some answers: 1. are you sure you need one? maybe try riding it a bit first, rpm in these is quite "self explanatory" :) 2. need to? dont know, but i did put in there a DIY brace, was easy to do. pm me your email and ill send a pic 5. with the rather soft supsension of an XT, a bike that sits too upright might tip to the other side with some luggage on, so consider that. if PO was not that mindful, stand can get bent/hinge wear out. not that hard to rectify or even make stand length adjustable to varying load conditions. 7.there should be a flap that protects the shock's bottom link bearing area from dust and debris, quite important to have it IMHO |

http://www.dirtbike.at/crd/auspuff/framebrace_xt.jpg Laser Produro system for this bike come with a bracket, unsure of other makers? most guys just fashion their own brackets., image search Google "xt600e exhaust frame brace" Mezo. |
1. Yes you can fit the rpm on this, need the gear for the top, cable, meter and change the bracket/top on the steering. Much easier to buy new digital meter with all included. But if you have parts just change.
2. Now you dont need the support, have been riding for 10 years without and with passager at times no problem. If your weight is like 140kg and you want a fat lady behind i would go for it ;) 4. Oh you should get 0,5l pr 10km always. 5. If you have raised bike they lean, i fixed it with easy mounting rubber under the sidestand. 6. No just ride, Buy a Dynojetkit it makes a big difference. 7.No, open space with seat cover it? |
Cheers guys,
I'll check out the givi screens, Have you had experience with them on an xt600e? I've looked at a few and they seem to be more for round headlight units. @turboguzzi Thanks very much, really appreciated. We're riding down to bardonecchia and staying there for 7 nights to explore the surrounding areas and the roads around the alps. I have loads of spares from DT125R's and they appear to be the same clocks. I don't know why but I just like having a rev counter. I'll look into the bracing options. I have a supertrapp silencer 2nd hand but havnt fitting it yet in case it was risky. I'm like 60kg so should be ok really and no intention carrying any fat ladies on the back! Just luggage. I have a Hepco & Becker racking kit to fit but will go with soft luggage i think. I have the flap that protects the lower shock bush, its just so open at the top and the presence of the inner tube bodge that concerned me. I'll get some photos to make sure but sounds like there shouldnt be anything there. Once again, thanks for all the info. Look forward to being able to get some photos up soon. |
You could get a small aftermarket rev counter, the ones where you just fit a wire over the ignition lead. Shouldn't cost you more than £10-20 on ebay ect.

kudos to you for choosing to explore just one area rather than trying to see "all of the alps" in 6 days :) seen too many friends making over ambitious plans!
that area is one of my favorites, endless amazing roads and loops to ride and if you are into off-roading you can take the gravel service roads that climb to the skiing sites... the D902 road from Modane to Bourg Saint Maurice is a classic! hotel du nord in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne is an excellent bike friendly place to eat and sleep on your way down.... |
Hey Jens, you're on the Dt125 forum too right?
Yeah I might look into that. Seems like a dt125r set of clocks would be a nice easy swap but an aftermarket one might be a good option. Cheers turbo, we're basing it on a trip from adventure bike rider where they rode down there on suzuki vanvan 125's. Vanvan Alps Adventure 2010 | Adventure Rider Hopefully it will be the first of many trips! :) Off into the garage now to try and get the carbs running a bit better. |
Yeah, my current stock is Dt125r, wr250r, and xt600.... So im visiting a loot of forums :mchappy:
