XT600E carb sync setting
Hi all,
Can anyone tell me if the carb sync setting described in the Clymer manual for earlier XT's applies to a 1991 XT600E? I think it states that the slide carb should open so that a 5mm drill bit can just pass under the slide when the linkage just touches the secondry carbs linkage. When I took he carbs off the 600E it was more like 12mm, which seems like a huge difference, after stripping and cleaning the carbs I set it somewhere in between, so that the secondry carbs butterfly was just horizontal on full throttle. Was this correct? Thanks for any advice Mark |
I don't know about your model, but I set my 2003 model to Clymer book and it's fine. Judging by what I found when I looked at carbs, it had been set at the factory to the 5mm gap you describe.

Thanks Boxer for your reply.
I will try setting the carb sync to 5mm to see if it cures the strange behaviour I experience when changing down for a corner, then accelerating. It feels like there is way too much free play in the throttle cables as I start to accelerate again, but the cable free play is correct. Mark |
