XT600E dies after a while
Hi everyone!
Im from Portugal, thanks to all that contribute to this forum! I have a XT600E and "she" dies after a while rolling. It's very strange, it starts very well (even when cold) and works perfect, meanwhile, after 15/20 minutes rolling it dies like when it doesn't have fuel and does not start more. I have to wait like 30 minutes to start it again.... I already replaced the spark an the spark plug... Any ideas? Thanks a lot! |
Recommend to really clean the airfilter first. Three times in clean petrol, and then lightly oiling may help.

Stock airfilter is paper, it shouldnt be soaked in petrol or oil.
Could be the ignition coil, resistance goes up as it heats up, but its hard to troubleshoot as by the time youve stopped, and removed seat and gastank to meassure it, it has cooled down and is within specs. Its really not common on theese bikes tho' Hope you get it sorted out, and come back with a solution. |
next time is stops do two things
1. unscrew the float bowl drain screw and see if fuel flows freely for a minute or two. 2. if thats ok, take out the spark plug and check for spark if its the second, then its what jens said or other ignition problem. also check the stand switch. |
So it stops after 15/20 mins, i would say its an electrical component failing as it gets hot, could be your stator, reg/rec or coil.

My lawnmower's a bit like that :rofl: Back in the world of the internal combustion engine though, a friend had exactly the same symptoms on his 20yr old Triumph a few weeks ago and it was the ignition pickup. Fine when cold, runs for about 20 mins, cuts out and takes around 15 mins to restart. Then does about 3-5 miles and stops again. Check for a spark while it's in a sulky phase.

If you never have open the carb and cleaned it i suggest you start there, had lot of problems with stop and wait and everything ok. If you have a hill near, try and check if it happens again. Its just not enough fuel when it need the lilttle extra. Its a small filter inside and rust particles from tank had filled up there, cleaned up and added a inline fuelfilter problem never came back.
When i read that top blue thing here, thinking maybe we should make a Yamaha forum...I dont care for the rest of this site, just here to help tech and hate sites that starts begging for cash..Would be bad if all the info we have been giving gets lost of blocked, know about other forum for Yamaha that just wasnt there next day.. |

Thank you everyone for your replys! Today I replaced my ignition coil, I read somewhere in Internet that can be the ignition coil when gets warm stop sending eletric current... Tomorow I come here to post a feedback! Fingers crossed.... Thanks! |
