Xt600e Difference in reg/rec

Hi, my bike is having problems charging. Its only holding just above 12v without the lights, which means it discarges the battery...

I've cleaned all wires/connecters, but have yet to meassure the stator, I hate electric problems.

I have my eyes on the regulater/rectifier. I locked at kedo, and 1990-1995 and 1996-2003 has different partnumbers. Does onyone know what changed? Did it get better, new plug, what?

My mate has a xtz660, with a spare bike for parts and it has the same partnumber as the 1990-1995, so I have the oppertunity to borrow one for testing.....But mine is a 2003 :/ Does the plug fit for testing, i know its physically bigger, that doesnt matter, as its only for testing.

Thx :)

Hello Jens

I have 1990 and 2003 models in the garage and from memory I am pretty sure that the plugs and pin arrangement are the same in both. The difference is the metal outer casing with cooling fins on the 2003 compared to the metal/resin case on the 1991.

Regards - Alastair.

Thx a lot, I'll try to borrow the xtz one, tho it seems its an upgraded one as it has cooling fins. But I'll let ya all know what happens so this thread might be able to help others aswell.

I think I have time to mess with it tuesday :)

If its the reg/rec try these guys....I bought all my stuff from them...reg/recs...alternators....rotors and stators......cos I have lots of Honda and the electrics are shite! ...I think somewhere on their site they have a fault diagnostic chart to help you find out the problem,.......don,t be afraid of the electrical problems, the more you mess around the more you learn...good luck.

I use mostly rectifiers from the newer XTZ 660 the older ones have the same one as the 90-95 XTs the newer ones have a big fat one, never had trouble with on of those. You must feed ignition + (easy to get from your rear brake switch) and change the conection 3 x from stator, + to battery , + from brake light switch, minus to chasis. And you must make a plan to bolt it on with a bracket
