XT600E head bolts torque with or without oil
Hi, please your input.
I need to torque my head bolts and I'm not sure wether they need to be clean/ dry or be oiled (threads, and washer) when torqued down to 29Nm. In the service manual it says nothing about oiling, but one of two youtube video's does apply oil. Please your opinion on this. Video applying oil (min 8): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E35zHbRaaXY Video without applying oil (min 16): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkBDrA4Omtw&t=1058s Service manual (motor: XT600E 1990, 3TB) https://i.postimg.cc/WzMn59sX/Screenshot-head-bolts.png |
Dry bolts and dry holes, dont torque down like this video, do even down in steps all bolts X pattern

oil GREATLY increases the tension, and I've never seen a torque spec given with oiled threads.
ALWAYS follow the manual, exactly - youtube is NOT a safe place to get critical information like this. Youtube is useful when you are unable to figure out a procedure, either from a manual or it just isn't in there. Watch SEVERAL videos at least if you're stuck. Well done to ask here when you found two videos with differing instructions! |
