XT600E problems

I recently bought a 97 XT600E with only 5000kms.. found it to be smoking a bit and motor a bit noisy..took it to the agents who found a large gouge in the bore. I replaced cylinder with new and they also replaced a valve.
Problem is on the odd occassion when I tap off and open the throttle it hesitates and sounds almost like a small wet fart and then takes..
I did take it back to the agents and they made the mixture richer which improved the mid and top range, but the hesitation still bothers me on occassion and the bottom end is pretty flat compared to my 85 Tenere.
Has anyone experienced or have knowlede on this problem..any advice welcome!
Advice also needed on how to make the Tenere `s mixture richer as she seems to lack any enthusiasm after 4,500rpm.

Thanks!

Pilot screw

If your pilot screw setting is really off this might happen. I think it should be richer, so screw out a bit or proceed as per other thread I just replied to.

Well, enriching is not always the way to go.... Airfilter clean? Is the piston in the second stage of the carb moving freely? Ignition OK?

Auke
