XT600E Rev Limiter
I have a 1999 XT600E that doesent seem to want to rev passed 5k Revs.
Do these things have a rev limiter functioning on them or something? If that is the case any idea how I can disengage it. Cheers |
Rev limiter
The answer is yes and no.
They DO have Rev limiter but surely it's not made in a way to limit your power & surely it's not set @ 5000 (maybe 7k, not sure, but they have max power @6,5k...). If you feel that power is reduced, you probably have problem somewhere else: check that all fuel line, from tank to engine, is free from obstacles air filter is clean etc etc... or something with your stator...but too many possibilities for this to diagnose. For CDI\TCI option (where rev limiter is located) try simply to swap with a friend with same bike, 99% you'll probably see no difference. |
Cheers mate.
Is it the norm for this bike to go faster in 4th? In 4th - if the winds blowing right etc.. on rare occurance I can hit 140k but more usually 130. but in 5th it sits at 120 almost like the gearing is wrong yet it seems I am running standard gearing. I should note that that it's packed pretty heavy though with panniers and pack strapped to the back. I've noticed other threads regarding the same problem I know from the offset that these are not fast bikes but its just that 5th gear that is puzzling me really. |
Hi there...when have ya changed your Sparkplug? check it...and if ya can, make a piston compression test... I had something very similiar to one of my other bikes, a Yamaha DT125R had one broken piston ring... in 5th it was doing 130...in 6th it would go down to 120 and just sat there :rolleyes2:

Check the diaphram in the secondary carb,if it has a hole it won't be opening fully and thereby limiting revs and power.

Cheers Lads.
Will be getting a new spark plug and oil change tommorrow - fingers crossed if the dealer has an oil filter ordered and in stock as promised. I was told he had one in stock last week and rode for half a day to pick it up to tell me he made a mistake, so have been hanging around since. Nice one Motu, I am in New zealand as it happens. bought the bike to tour the country on and am very impressed with it. Quick question. - I am assuming the diaphram lays under the cylinder metal cover held on by four phillips screws on top of the carb at the 'foot brake side' of the bike? the hole you mention - will it be blocked by dirt or something? is it a case of just cleaning it? Cheers |

If you are not sure, take a look back in this Yam tech forum; there are pictures of the standard carb - some are discussed within TT600R threads because it is the same engine. |
Cheers Walkabout I found one here.
www.xt600.de Vergaser-Spezial would/could a faulty or damaged diaphragm cause starting problems or only affect running at high rpm etc..? the question is not related to the XT but another single carbed (CV) bike I have thats been non running for far too long now. |

The German websites have lots to offer! Well, I am treading cautiously here, on the edge of my knowledge! I think that on the XT carb it would not effect starting as such; that side of the carb (there are two bits to it) is for running at higher revs than starting applies. But, for a different design of carb, the answer may be the opposite. :rolleyes2: You might want to look at the link in here:- http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...al-stuff-27640 & this bit in that same link:- Dan's Motorcycle "Trouble Shooting" (This guy explains things in plain language) Cheers, |
Thanks Walkabout,
I just posted a more specific post regarding that problem in the Honda Section. That link you posted is Great! - Thank you. I've just bookmarked it and will definitly learn lots swotting up on all that info. Cheers. |

sometimes they stretch and are "floppy" so a new one is better, not cheap though from yamaha they werw 68 Quid bit 50% MORE than that from a pattern supplier!. Diaphragm shouldnt cause starting probs. martyn |
